The HR Business Partner (HRBP) provides human resource services for all business units while working with university leadership to support their strategic business objectives. The HRBP provides counsel on all HR matters including but not limited to talent acquisition, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, organizational effectiveness, performance management, diversity and inclusion and employment legal matters. The incumbent serves as the key liaison for all human resource issues including employee and labor relations, training, and HRIS for departments serviced. In addition, this position will advise and counsel supervisors and employees on HR programs, records, forms, systems and related policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 4-8 years' human resources experience
  • Demonstrated advanced competency in following functional areas: talent acquisition, compensation, employee relations, labor relations, organizational effectiveness, performance management, learning and development, colleague engagement, diversity and inclusion, and HR metrics.
  • Must have advanced employee relations experience including but not limited to coaching managers on the resolution of performance issues; coaching managers on interpretation and application of HR policy and employment law; employee investigations; and severance and termination proceedings.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated solid understanding of all areas of HR, including employee and labor relations, recruitment best practices, benefits, compensation, HR communications and learning & development.
  • Proven excellent customer support skills with demonstrated evidence of strong business acumen including the ability to understand the needs of the client and adjust our services in accordance with those business needs and requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and providing consultation to leaders as a business partner on strategic and tactical HR related business issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • Must have proven strong presentation skills and presence.
  • Strong employment/labor law knowledge and ability to stay abreast of changing laws and regulations.
  • Critical thinking skills required

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
  • Experience in labor relations including grievances, arbitrations, and interpretation of CBAs

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • HR Business Partner experience in higher education
  • Understanding of HR technology and google documents
  • Quarterback of HR communications
