Arcadia University is currently engaged in a multi-year, strategically important, change initiative aimed at transforming the IT division to a proactive service provider across all stakeholder groups. Strengthening the technology core is critical to our transformation initiative. The person in this position plays an important role in deploying and managing services that ensure a robust and seamless learning environment and preparing the University for a cloud native future. The Network and Systems Administrator's core responsibility is to maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient data communications network. The primary focus of this position is to design, build, support, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize the campus networking. As a residential University catering to student's needs, it is important that we have a high performing network that is operational 24*7*365. The Network and Systems Administrator will need to anticipate the needs of the University and actively contribute to the future planning and designing of the technology infrastructure. To do so, it is important that this role stays closely connected and engaged with the University community members.


This position is hybrid and will be required to work on the Glenside, PA campus a few days per week.

Essential Functions:

Proactive Service Management - 40%

Proactively monitors performance and supports daily network operations, on both wired and wireless networks and responds promptly to avoid service degradation. Identifies and integrates tools to assist with the management, automation, and orchestration of the campus network and systems. Integrates and supports information security and identity and access management systems in alignment with compliance obligations. Provides troubleshooting and resolution of general network issues. Provides support in area of expertise: routing and switching issues. Follows documented outage notification and change control procedures. Participates in overnight on-call rotation. Configures and maintains network equipment (Fortinet, Meraki, Aruba, and others) Collaborates with outside vendors and/or partners to plan, support, troubleshoot and/or implement the technology that makes up the campus network. Ensures that the network asset inventory is maintained and uses detailed service, capacity, and performance data to advocate with appropriate urgency for upgrades. Participates in the planning and execution of disaster recovery testing and remediation. Protects, respects, and maintains the confidentiality of information held within or transferred across the University's technological resources. Stays up to date with current trends and developments in networking, cloud technologies, and information security.


Implementation and Project Management - 40%

Utilizes Zendesk to track ticket entries, progress, and resolution; for project updates and time tracking; and change management requests. Uses project management tool (SmartSheet) to organize and manage networking projects and tasks. Plans, develops, tests, installs, implements, and documents new hardware as well as enhancements to the existing hardware for the physical and data security systems that comprise the campus network. Performs physical installation of network cabling and associated equipment, as necessary. Collaborates with other members of the team as well as key members of other groups within IT to ensure network projects and changes are appropriately planned and communicated to the rest of the organization and campus community. Helps lead the development and implementation of policies for the use of cloud services, managing requests for new technology, establishing a secure cloud environment, and ensuring appropriate availability of services. Participates in the planning and development of projects and applications throughout the university that require network involvement, experience and/or integration.


Collaboration and Teamwork - 20%

Provides mentoring, supervision, guidance, and instruction to our student employees. Provides detailed training and instruction for the transfer of procedures and knowledge to other IT staff, as well as to the campus community at large in area of expertise: routing and switching. Works collaboratively with teams across the IT organization to collectively support information security, educational and enterprise technologies, and user services. Maintains supportive, professional relationships with end users by providing courteous, responsive service to the campus community, including our colleagues in Information Technology. Assumes other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with members of the Arcadia IT Team members, vendors and the end-user community
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in current network related technologies and thought­ leadership
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, Meraki and other network technologies.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies
  • Familiarity with protected data regulations requiring segmentation
  • Expertise in firewall and vpn management
  • Demonstrate ability to collaborate effectively articulating advantages and risks of proposed solutions and options
  • Strong root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability to function as a credible and valued member of a high-performance team
  • Ability to estimate resource use in project management
  • Ability to collaborate across different organizations, locally and globally
  • Proficient in planning and executing enterprise IT upgrades and implementations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited College or University, or robust certification and/or experience
  • At least seven years' professional experience in an enterprise network environment
  • At least two years' project management, team lead or architect level experience within an IT environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Appropriate professional certifications
  • Experience in working in a virtual environment that includes international teams is a plus
  • Expert working in Microsoft, Visio, Google environment
  • Experience with a wide range of IT vendors and offerings.
