Job Description: The Department of Visual and Performing Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences at Arcadia University invites applications for a nine-month, full-time non-tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Practice in Graphic and Interactive Design position to begin in the Fall of 2023. The successful candidate will embrace inclusive excellence in the classroom to provide an educational environment where all students can thrive.

Arcadia's College of Arts and Sciences offers programs in humanities, computer science, visual and performing arts; media and communication; psychology; and sociology and criminal justice. These programs prepare students for careers that contribute to a global society and allow students to exhibit, perform, and publish on campus through a variety of campus media outlets, including several art galleries, literary magazine, and online journal.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching three courses (12 credits) per semester
  • Overseeing senior projects
  • Maintaining a classroom and facilities, administrating budget for the Graphic Design area, and participating in departmental work, planning, and advising.
  • We seek faculty members who are interested in engaging in service to the Department and University.

Qualifications:

  • Professional experience and a high level of professional activity/engagement in their field in concordance with the role of professor of practice and an established record of expertise for teaching relative to rank is expected, along with a working knowledge of the historical, theoretical, and practical discourse surrounding Graphic and Interactive Design.
  • The successful candidate would demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: Print and Web Design, Brand Identity Design, UI/UX Design, Motion Graphics, Illustration, Digital Imaging.
  • Faculty are expected to be able to perform as excellent teachers and practitioners, provide service to the University and the community, and to achieve these goals with the highest professional and ethical standards.

Requirements:

  • MFA or equivalent work experience. Individuals without a terminal degree, but with outstanding and lengthy practice in their respective field, will be considered;
  • Teaching experience at the college level;
  • Demonstrated interest in contributing to a contemporary interdisciplinary setting;
  • Willingness to develop curriculum in concert with colleagues from the various studio disciplines;
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and knowledge about diversity, equity, and inclusion and embrace opportunities for continued growth in cultural competence.
  • Professional experience and high level of professional activity/engagement in their field in concordance with the role of professor of practice;
  • Candidates should possess a strong vision and the ability to develop and lead a Graphic Design program within the liberal arts context.
