Job Description: This is a full time 37.5 hours per week position during the 9 month academic year (mid-August through mid-May), and a part time position during the summer months, that assists with the daily operations of Student Health Services (SHS). This employee must assure compliance with regulatory practices of HIPPA and FERPA. This position also requires problem solving and communication with the public, staff and faculty of the university. It is a highly visible requiring professional telephone and personal communication skills. This position requires daily problem solving and communication with the public and other staff. This position reports to the Director of Student Health Services.
Responsibilities:
Triage:
- Answer health services phone calls and assist as appropriate.
- Assist Students with questions/ concerns/ appointment information.
- Helps triage all emergencies and assists with calling/coordinating with Public Safety, family members and other faculty involved with Student Affairs, as appropriate.
Patient Appointments:
- Welcomes students, escorts patient to exam room and answers or refers questions.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, records reason for visit, documents vital signs, reviews medical history, identifies daily medications and records drug allergies.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers by preparing laboratory specimens according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, which would include but not be limited to: rapid COVID, rapid mono, rapid strep, rapid flu, urine pregnancy test, performing basic laboratory tests and disposing of contaminated supplies.
- Administering and maintain health records for immunizations and ppds as per OSHA guidelines.
- Administering allergy and hormonal injections as per OSHA standards. Maintaining medical records and logs as necessary to document.
- Educates patients by providing medication and treatment information and instructions.
- Assisting and recording payment collection from students as necessary and if needed.
Patient Management:
- Verifies vaccination information to assure compliance for all full-time incoming undergraduate and graduate students.
- Follows up with email notifications of all students that in incomplete with medical data.
- Electronically places non-compliant student on "health hold" and assists students with process to remover their hold for registration purposes.
- Completing clinical requirement paperwork for providers to sign. Will collaborate with Physical Therapy (PT), Physician Assistant (PA), Genetic Counseling (GC), Athletics, Office of International Programs (OIP), and Community Service departments as needed.
- Help navigate students to become more knowledgeable of the healthcare system.
- Guide students through insurance processes
- Guide students through process of being a self-advocate for medical career
- Emphasize the importance of appointment scheduling and adherence.
Office Management:
- Proficient with programs such as Medicat, PowerCampus and Microsoft Suite.
- Greets visitors to the office in a friendly and professional manner. Seeks to assist visitors and provides them with accurate requested information.
- Maintains medical supplies by inventorying stock, placing orders and verifying receipts.
- Will inspect and maintain 6 university Automatic External Defibrillators (AED's) at specified locations.
- Acts as a resource person to other staff, for example administrative assistant, office assistant, nurse practitioners and work study student.
- Effective team player who demonstrates reliability, actively participates and facilitates getting tasks done in a timely manner.
- Other tasks as requested and required.
Qualifications:
Skills and Certifications:
- Maintains PA medical assistant certification
- CPR/AED certified
- Excellent computer skills
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
- Yearly skills checklist completion for vaccine administration
