Job Description: The General Maintenance Mechanic performs various routine maintenance assignments and assists other POM personnel in the repair and maintenance of physical structures, equipment, and fixtures of the facility and grounds. This position is deemed essential, which requires on-call and emergency response to campus, as needed.
Management reserves the right to reassign all personnel in the event of an absence or emergency. Employee may be required to work overtime or weekends with minimal notice. Management is the sole judge in the assignment and evaluation of performance. Although this job description attempts to be all inclusive, Management reserves the right to assign other duties as required.
Responsibilities:
- Comply with all health and safety directives to include the use and or wearing of personal protective gear.
- Work from written requisitions or verbal instructions.
- Receive work orders and coordinate work to fit schedule as assigned
- Estimate time and materials required on work order.
- Prioritize urgency of work requests.
- Operate a variety of power and hand tools.
- Assist Arcadia University Facilities Management Department personnel as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend facility-sponsored training in Fire Safety, Right-To-Know, Chemical Hygiene, Lock Out-Tag Out, and First Aid.
- Troubleshoot and repair electric motors, controllers and other auxiliary electrical devices.
- Report defective materials, faulty operation of equipment, and unusual matters to supervisor and appropriate personnel.
- Maintain facility and mechanical alarm systems.
- Repair electric motors, controllers and other auxiliary electrical devices.
- Install new wiring and electrical machinery; work from prints and diagrams to determine layout, location, and specifications of items to install.
- Assist with the coordination of all high voltage & substation work activities.
- Bend and install conduit.
- Install concealed wiring.
- Isolate and repair defective circuits as required.
- Dismantle electrical machinery and break connections; replace defective parts; reassemble, and test for proper operation.
- Check and repair lighting systems.
- Maintain and repair central clock system.
- Collaborate with Arcadia University Facilities Management Department personnel to solicit expertise of required crafts necessary to complete assigned projects.
- Serve as consultant to facility personnel in recommending specific courses of action to attain desired goals.
- Solicit assistance of other POM personnel for the efficient completion of projects.
- Maintain professional appearance at all times.
- Participate in scheduled department meetings.
- Report any violation of OSHA Regulations to supervisor.
- Notify supervisor of any problems or delays in projects.
- Maintain the confidentiality and Public Safety of all data and information relating to the facility, staff and students.
- Abide by all relevant facility policies and procedures.
Repair or Replace
- Defective plumbing equipment.
- Heating systems including traps, valves, controls, piping and various types of heating equipment.
- Outside utilities (on premises) sewer and storm drains, gas, water
- Water distillers
- Various pumps
- Hot and cold water tanks and systems
- Drain cleaning
- Steam piping
- Water booster systems
- Piping for machinery
- Back flow testing
- Fire protection system tests
- Inventory stock, and requisition supplies to maintain adequate supply.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition following
- Prescribed safety regulations.
- Assist the fire alarm testing company, as needed, to maintain facility fire alarm system.
- Provide general maintenance service to facility personnel, i.e., assemble furniture and accessories.
- Maintain work area and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
- Follow standard and prescribed safety regulations.
- Respond to all facility emergencies.
Marginal Functions:
• Assist with snow removal as situation demands.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
Other Requirements: (e.g., certificates, license required)
• Valid Driver's License
